Learn by Doing

At MTTI, we stress the importance of hands-on learning! While you attend MTTI’s Automotive Technician program you will spend at least half your time in the shop; actually diagnosing and repairing cars.

Throughout the program, you will often complete the same actual live repairs that you will perform when employed in the industry as a mechanic / technician.

After graduating, you will be well-prepared for a transition into the automotive industry workforce. The experience you gain at MTTI helps prepare you for a full-time career as an Automotive Service Technician.

Tools

Each student in the Auto Tech Program is provided with a set of tools to use in class. In addition, MTTI students can purchase tools at a discount. Students who successfully enter training-related employment may be eligible for a tool bonus.

Certification

Successful completion of MTTI’s Automotive Service Technician program will qualify as one year of work experience towards ASE certification. You are typically required to work in the automotive field for a minimum of two years before you can qualify for ASE certification. For more information about ASE certification please contact us.

"The automotive program instilled me with a better confidence in diagnosing and servicing vehicles, which has been a hobby of mine. It's overall an excellent program. Everything they teach you applies to what you will be doing real time. I am happy to begin working at a dealership, doing something I love."

Cameron Brule, 2019 Graduate
Apprentice Technician, BMW of Newport

"Learning electrical basics at MTTI gave me confidence to learn electrical on luxury cars. At Herb Chambers Lexus, you deal with many electrical problems. Lexus vehicles have all kinds of cool sensors, like ‘lane assist’ and ‘parking assist’. You have to be able to read the wiring diagrams to understand them. But I don’t feel blindsided when the Foremen are helping me with electrical issues—I have been prepared for that."
